Muse - The Handler fan art

I don't normally do fan art, but recently I got a pretty cool Muse tattoo and have been listening to the album "Drones" alot, and I have been fixated by the song "The Handler". The story behind the album is great, but this one pivotal song is somewhat of a highlight to me, where the protagonist realises that he/she is being controlled by their "Handler" and now its their time to break free, well thats the way I interpreted it.

Enjoy folks :)

Damian "Jr Gong" Marley Poster - online competition

Here is my finished design for an online competition for "Creative Allies". The competition I entered was to design a US tour poster for Damian Marley, the theme was to be inspired by his latest work "Catch A Fire".

The other theme to include were his previous material, or just by the man himself. Being a big Bob Marley fan I used the Lion as the main image as it is a big image in the Rasta's relioin beliefs.

Monster Sea Slugs

Here are a couple of drawings I did while I was at University. These were to become part of a book that I would then create during my final year at university.

Enjoy :)

I Am Groot

So after watching the summer blockbuster that was Guardians Of The Galaxy, I fell in love with Groot, who I thought was the best character in that film.

Finally after having some spare time from work I managed to finish off this doodle I started what seems to be very long ago.

Smaugs Eye

As a huge fan of the hobbit and esp dragons, I thought it would be inevitable to draw smaug or have an attempt at drawing him. I decided to draw the eye of smaug as it was a very memorable part from the first hobbit film "the awakening of the beast"
as they would say.

First dragon of the year

Finally got round to finishing off this picture, took me a little longer then I wanted to (mainly thanks to having a job, and having a busy social life for once). This was initially inspired by the WoW mount the "Cloud Serpent".

Logo Commission

Recently I was asked to design a logo for one of my local contacts, the brief being : Create something whacky and different to what I usually do, must have some sort of wavey effect.

After researching alot and looking at the various album covers I own, and music posters, I came up with the idea to create a spacey effect, which had a wavey fluid effect I also quite like the idea of something moving smoothly, abit like a a lost spirit in the wild. The inspiration for this came from Muse's various spacey single covers for various songs like, knights of cydonia, Invincible Supermassive Blackhole etc.

So after experimenting with new techniques and idea's I have learnt via youtube tutorials I came up with a number of designs for my client, who was pretty impressed with what I had created and even commented that it was a massive leap from my initial designs I had done for him (which to me now appear very amateurish).

Entry For Korn Single Artwork Competition

Recently I entered a competition to design a cover for Korn's latest single Love & Meth. My interpretation of the song was to cover the heart with meth needles that were in the shape of Korn's renowned microphone stand.

Entering this competition was great for me, as album artwork is an area of illustration that greatly inspires me and also as a huge lover of music as well.

Fingers crossed that something comes from this.

Jewellers Logo

Recently I was asked by a local Jeweler to create a logo for her to be used for Business cards, websites etc.
The brief for this client was: To include "Inspired by Nature", as a lot of her work is inspired by nature and the animals in this world, especially Butterflies, which the client asked if I could sketch out a couple of designs to be used with her logo. Along with the butterflies I was asked to use a posh-ish text and have the text either in pink/purple or black/silver.

After creating several copies of the design the client was happy to settle on this design. I enjoyed partaking in this, as it was something different to what I normally do, and something to add to my new found skills in typography.

To contact the jeweler her facebook link is below, and on her page is a link to her work on a separate facebook page.

Horde Of Hamsters

For my Final Major Project I took on  the task of two projects to complete. The being the Monster book which needed the most time to be completed and printed seeing as more was going into it then the second project.

The second project was to continue on with the character development of a series of hamsters that I had entitled "A Horde Of Hamsters". This was a play on the animal collective noun for hamsters.  With the intial feedback from the first time attempt at these creatures the main negative comment I received was the fact that the hamsters themselves looked the same and could do with being more visually characteristic instead of using props or items.  I also based the hamsters heavily ont he dwarves from the hit movie "The Hobbit". These Dwarves were a massive influence since each dwarf has a visual characteristic that defines each character: e.g. Bombur was portrayed fat - this deducts that he is a fond lover of food and is the camps cook, Dwalin was depicted as being bold, with many scars and heavily equiped this concluded that dwalin was the natural born fighter of the group and the hard man of the fellowship.

The Plant Troll

Often found roaming the woodland realms of world, this creature is slow, docile and quite stupid.
Territorial this creature will attack anything it feels is trying to take over his/her area. Apart from roaming around this creature will tend to flowers, or fallen trees and often can be seen making its home from fallen tree's.

This creature doesn't really tend to eat anything, and like plants lives mostly of the sun and drinking and soaking in water.

Final Major Project: Monsters In Our World

For my final major project I decided to create a little fun fact book about Monsters for children. I decided this would be a great way to enhance and further develop my character designing skills while also learning more about how to publish and lay out my book properly. Unfortunately the final product wasn't perfect as you can see below the final cutting by the printing company was not that great and left too large white outlines which was a major annoyance, but apart from this I was generally happy with the final product.

Below are a series of images of some of the work inside the book and what the final product looks like.

Guest Lecture - Brian Froud

Today we had a guest lecture in the form of Brian Froud, who is mostly known for his amazing life like Faeries, and art work for films such as Jim Henson's "The Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth". He showed us a portfolio of his work, which was amazing. During the talk Brian told us how he got into the fantasy art world, and told us some great tips, one that'll stick in my mind is "Never listen to your tutors".

This lecture was great for me, as fantasy art is an area that I am heavily influenced in and in love with.

Editorial Piece - Project

I found this after rummaging around my old PC and was quite surprised to find this. Anyway this piece was created during a editorial project we did during my second year, if your a Muse fan you can see that the album cover Absolution heavily inspired this piece (and its one of my all time favourite albums). The article was about how people can trace and track terrorists, fugitives, criminals were now thanks to their shadows and the way they walked, the title of this article is called "Betrayed by your shadow", this was quite a fun article to do, may keep this in mind when I'm looking for work after education.

The power of advanced technology can be truly terrifying and amazing.

Sky Phonics - business cards and other managerie

Couple of weeks back I was given a commission by a local music recording studio to design a logo for them. Thankfully it was accepted and was published and is still being used by the studio, and now thanks to the the studio they have recently sent me some pictures of my design being used on numerous items, such as mouse matts, car adverts, and business cards here are a few picture of the items, and below is a link to the facebook page of said music studio, if anyone out there reading this post is interested in their music being recorded and produced.
